Panzer II: History – Technology – Variants – Combat by Markus Zöllner
The legendary reputation of the German Panzertruppe is mainly based on the Panther and Tiger tanks. However, less than ten years before these legends entered combat, the German Armoured Corps had to make do with the Panzer I and Panzer II which were mainly purchased for training purposes. Although unlikely candidates for World War 2 tank engagements, these two Panzers entered the war and did the job before heavier tanks were available. This publication documents the development history, combat on all fronts and variants of the Panzerkampfwagen II, one of the Panzerwaffe’s tanks that was not meant to become a legend.
