AFV Modeller May/June 2011

What do we say about Volume twelve? This begins with a walkaround section covering a Jagdtiger with its roof blown off with superb details of surface textures and the engine deck MG mount. Panther fans will delight in the shots of the 116th Panzer division vehicle with hand painted tactical number and the striped camouflage vehicle featured on the cover. Jagdpanther gets coverage too with two different vehicles, one with the remains of a hard edged camouflage scheme. King Tiger 113 of SS-Pz.Abt.l 01 abandoned in Belgium is well detailed with great shots of the zimmerit pattern and no doubt the same people who cut the small section out of the glacis armour also removed the 88mm gun! A rare late war Pz. II Ausf b is seen in two different locations and there are some shots showing late StuG III with a green over red primer camo scheme. Veteran Pz. IV and III are featured all sporting hastily applied high contrast paint schemes, several 12t Halftracks and an Sd.Kfz. 232 8 Rad. A captured American M8 with improvised MG 151 Drilling mount in the turret makes an interesting subject and there are several photos of a disemboweled Renault R35 in German service. Another prime modelling subject is the disc camouflaged Panther with field applied turret zimmerit being driven around by Americans after receiving a flank penetration. The Panzer IV/70 gets detailed coverage with close up study of both exterior and interior and the book concludes with the mythic full colour photograph of the 'Octopus' King Tiger which should be reason enough to have a copy of this book. What more do we need to say about Volume 12?
