Classic Military Vehicle March 2008

Although this is the fifth in the Panzerwrecks series, it is the first I've seen.

It almost goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway, that this book contains photos of (mainly) wrecked German tanks. Presumably, it is primarily aimed at modelers, and I can imagine many a diorama being based on the photos therein. There are, in fact, more than 150 photos in the book, most reproduced full page and of very good quality, and sometimes showing the same vehicle from different angles. The captions are succinct, but detailed and informative.

There isn't much one can say about a book of this nature; it delivers exactly what it promises and, although I'm not of the modeling fraternity, I've an interest in WW2 armour and found the book quite fascinating. Particularly interesting was a series of photos of Shermans, captured and used in combat by the Germans, and then recaptured by the Allies when they were abandoned due to lack of fuel. I've never seen tanks so liberally covered with spare sections of track, which, I suppose, reflects the Germans' opinion of the level of protection offered by an M4's basic armour. There is also a nice series of a Tiger II being taken for a test drive by US troops.
