Issue number 7 of the Panzerwrecks series sees a slight change of outlook, being entirely devoted to Panzers abandoned and destroyed on the Eastern Front. The vast majority of the Panzerwaffe was lost in the East but the photographic coverage of their remains has been quite thin until the last few years with some notable exceptions such as the remarkable Tank Battles series book The Battle Near Lake Balaton and others such as the Frontline Illustration ‘Trophy’ and Camouflage’ books, all from Russia which provided a glimpse of the treasures residing in the former Soviet archives and were a breath of fresh air in the early ‘90s when Western publications, particularly English language books seemed to be recycling the same photos time after time. The guys from Panzerwrecks have gone to some of the same sources (amusingly described in the introduction) to harvest images for this volume and while a few shots have been seen before in the above mentioned books the reproduction here is noticeably better and justified by the inclusion of additional views of some vehicles. Most of the images are new to me and as always the range of vehicles and types is wide ranging and occasionally eclectic-an amazing sequence of Hungarian Turan tanks and a walkaround of a dishevelled ADGZ stand out for curiosity value alone. The feature chapters consist of 4 collections of photos covering concentrations of abandoned and surrendering vehicles from the Ukraine to Courland. Overall another winner and great inspiration for all those future projects! Very highly recommended, my gratitude to Lee Archer for the review sample.
